Lebron James, NBA star, called President Donald Trump a ‘bum’, after Trump commented on Steph Curry’s decision to decline his invitation to go to Trump’s White House.

Steph Curry announced he would be making a stand by not going with the rest of the Golden State Warriors team to their NBA Champion’s visit to the White House.

Warriors point guard Curry, the two-time NBA MVP, said the team can:

“inspire some change” by refusing to visit the home of the president.

“I don’t want to go,” Curry , added that it would show the players “don’t stand for… the things that he’s said and the things that he hasn’t said in the right times.

“I don’t think us not going to the White House is going to miraculously make everything better, but this is my opportunity to voice that.”

We live in an era where sports stars can do more than just play their respective sport. Many sports stars are iconic figures with millions of followers. The question is how should they use that following to express their opinions/beliefs, for the betterment of society and their communities? However, some people do not want politics and sports to mix. Whereas other people argue you can not expect athletes to ignore the plight, issues and talking points of a society they are still very much a part of; even if they earn millions and live a life that is very different to most people’s.
