Brazil is known for two things globally: playing the beautiful game[Football] and the Rio Carnival. Whereas dark skinned players like Pele have excelled in the Brazilian national team. The same cannot be said about the focal point of the carnival; until 2013 there had never been a dark skinned Carnival Queen.
Yet, Nayara Justino thought her dreams had come true when she was selected as the Globeleza carnival queen in 2013 after a public vote on one of Brazil’s biggest TV shows. Sadly, this documentary by the guardian shows that Brazil are still a long way off accepting their first dark skinned Globeleza carnival queen.
